Shropshire Patios
The one thing every garden needs is a seating area, somewhere to sit, relax and unwind.
Every patio is unique. The patio itself does not have to be square, it can be any size and any shape you require.
Paving Materials
The patio itself could be made up from paving slabs, tile, block paving, setts, flagstones, or recycled brick to name just a few.
If you decided to go for an area of slabbing, you could choose from a multitude of natural or man-made materials including concrete, sandstone, granite, slate, flag stone, limestone or travertine.
There are also a multitude of paving slab manufacturers to choose from including Stonemarket, Marshalls, Bradstone, Eaton and Village Stone.
Depending on your individual requirements the patio can be designed using colours and shapes that will make your garden appear brighter and larger.
Some paving slabs are smooth and some have a Riven surface and edge. Using different slab textures will give the patio a style and feel.
Paving slabs are available in so many different sizes, textures and colours that possibilities are endless. In most cases the patio is the single most important feature in the garden but thankfully there is a wide range of paving slabs to choose from.
When you book your initial consultation we can show you a range of brochures, photos of gardens where we have laid particular paving slabs, and actual samples of the different slabs on offer.
A single slab can cost anything form £1.50 to £20 so it will depend on your budget and what type of slab you really want.
If you are obtaining quotes for slabbing from other companies, always ask for samples of the actual patio slab that is to be used. The quality and thickness of paving materials varies between manufacturers and it is very difficult to tell how it will look from a brochure. Many companies will offer budget concrete slabs which mark very easily and we do not recommend these.
Paving Patterns
If you are on a tight budget and go for a single size 18"x18" or 24"x24" slab then they will usually be laid in a standard chess board grid pattern.
The more expensive paving slab ranges are available in up to six different sizes. This allows you more flexibility on the patio laying pattern. In this case most people go for a random pattern involving most of the sizes available, and this does give the most natural look.

Installation
In our view there is only one way to lay a paving slab - the right way. Our quotations for slabbing are based on allowing sufficient materials and sufficient time to do the job correctly, the way it supposed to be done. We have built our success on providing quality workmanship at a competitive price.
Our slabbing quotations will not be the cheapest but in this industry you will definitely get what you pay for. We always ensure paving slabs are laid on a layer of MOT hardcore and/or hardcore dust. This is then compacted to form a firm footing.
We then lay the patio slabs on a full bed of mortar. Most companies will 'spot' slabs putting a little mortar on each corner of the slab. This is done to save time and money but leaves a hollow space underneath the slab. It is only a matter of time before the slab starts rocking and they will then need to be re-laid.
Finally if you have chosen a patio slab that is meant to be laid with a pointing gap between the slabs, then this should be done with a wet mixture to ensure the mixture sets properly. This is another common mistake that results in return visits.
